Ilsur Metshin visits the greenhouses of the Gorvodzelenkhoz, where seedlings are being grown since the beginning of the year

This year, 47 streets will be decorated with flowers in Kazan, in addition, 66 flower installations will gladden residents and visitors of the city. The total number of flower seedlings increased by a third compared to last year. The Mayor of the capital of Tatarstan Ilsur Metshin visited the greenhouses of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise Gorvodzelenkhoz", where seedlings are being grown for the new summer season since the beginning of the year.

“Flower decoration is an important part of the city's improvement, - said I. Metshin. – Every year we plant millions of flowers, it is a meticulous process. The employees of the Gorvodzelenkhoz have been preparing seedlings since the beginning of the year, so that this beauty to gladden residents and visitors of Kazan”.

Last year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, fewer flowers were planted in the capital of Tatarstan than usual. “This year, flower decoration will increase by 30% compared to last year”, - the Mayor noted.

Only certified flower seedlings will be used for planting. The work began in January: at the first stage, the seeds were sown in special boxes, after which the seedlings grown from the seeds were dived into trays. From April, the seedlings are moved to the greenhouse.

Employees of the Gorvodzelenkhoz will start planting seedlings after May 20, when the warm weather settles. The installation of flowerbeds with a total area of about 18 thousand sq.m is planned at 47 streets, said the director of the MUE Gorvodzelenkhoz Rosa Zabbarova. “We will design lighting poles at 13 streets. In total, we will install about 1,500 flowerpots there”, - R.Zabbarova said.

A variety of flowers will gladden the citizens with bright colors, about 20-25 varieties will be planted: petunia, salvia, ageratum, various types of cineraria, begonia, celosia, geranium, canna, coleus, marigolds, lobelia and many others.

In addition to flowerbeds, 66 flower installations will decorate the city, R.Zabbarova added. Among them are the FIFA Wall, Boot and near the Ak Bars Arena stadium, flower arches on Parina str. and balls near the walls of the Kazan Kremlin, the storks in the Sovetsky district, Alice, Cheshire Cat and White Rabbit in front of the Ekiyat puppet theater, a three-dimensional installation “The world is in your hands” at the River port, flower pyramids at Tashayak and Parina streets and others.

For reference, last year in Kazan, 5 thousand vases and flowerpots were decorated, 3.5 million flower seedlings were planted, and 17 three-dimensional flower compositions were created.

In addition to flowers, about 40 thousand trees and 30 thousand shrubs are planted in Kazan every year. Last year, 7,769 large-sized trees were planted in Kazan. More than 2,600 trees were planted during the green reconstruction at 70 streets of the city.
