I. Metshin about the libraries of the XXI century

About 17%
of the population in Kazan visit libraries. In 2017, in parallel with the
rebranding of Kazan’s cultural centers, we thought about the modernization of
libraries in cultural and educational centers. We chose a library in the
districts Kirovsky (on K. Tsetkin Street) and Privolzhsky (on Mavlyutov Street)
as pilot ones.
The library
of the new generation near the Fisherman’s garden has already completely
changed and will open by the beginning of the summer season. The modern
cultural space has a co-working zone, a literary cafe, a computer zone, and a
children's playroom. I hope the residents of the district will be pleased to
come here and spend their leisure time. I think we will apply the experience of
reconstruction to other libraries in the city. Accessibility to the cultural
service for city residents should be constantly improved.
We are
faced with the task of making municipal libraries truly attractive for Kazan
citizens, which will help increase interest in books among young people. These
must be libraries of the XXI century. Young people should feel not like in a
time machine that brings them back to the past, but on the modern edge.
