More than 200 Kazan residents have already visited the
second recycling site «Collection point» on Rodina Street, which opened last
week. More than 35 different types of recyclables can be sorted here, from
clothing and fabric to electronics. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin visited
the facility today. He noted the importance of opening more recycling centers
in Kazan.
«The city produces between 1,600 and 1,800 tons of waste per day, which is 600,000
tons per year. If we want to live in a clean city and leave it in a better
state for future generations, we need to address environmental issues
systematically. We need to continue recycling and educate the public and
children about the importance of environmental conservation. We need to open
more recycling collection points in every district of the city», – said Ilsur
Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan.
The second recycling site «Collection point» was opened
by the regional operator of the Management Company PZhK. on April 10. It works
daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. Over the course of five days, more than 200
Kazan residents have visited the eco-friendly location. The recycling station is
equipped with over 20 separate containers, including yellow bins and boxes for
smaller waste. It accepts 35 different types of waste, including plastics,
metals, glass, paper, cartons, soft packaging made from foil and polyethylene,
electronics, clothing, furniture, tires, small items like medicine blisters and
plastic cards, as well as newspapers, magazines, receipts, and other types of
paper. Hazardous materials such as mercury-containing lamps and batteries are
not accepted. In the future, it is planned to expand the number of accepted
fractions to 40. «The number of points will grow depending on the demands and
needs of active citizens», – said Yevgeny Chekashov, General Director of the
Management Company PZhK. The new location also accepts 5 different types of
waste, which can be placed in the yellow bins installed near residential
buildings.
The process of agreement and construction of a site «Collection
Point» took six months. Approximately 2 million rubles were spent on the
construction of this facility, and approximately 200-250 thousand rubles are
required to maintain its operation every month.
For reference, the first «Collection Point» was opened
in March 2024 on Vasilchenko Street in Kazan. During the year of its operation,
residents brought more than 82 tons of various recyclable materials here. Most
commonly, residents brought soft plastic, cardboard, PET, and rubber for
recycling. More than 5 thousand citizens visited the reception point, including
tourists and students as part of city tours.
